Race Course Runners-up

10th August 2008

Heavy rain caused the venue of Perth Highland Games to be changed to Perth Race Course. The Junior Band continued their run of fine form taking 2nd place in a large Grade 4 turn-out, and claming first from the Piping Adjudicator, Jennifer Hutcheon.

The Senior Band took 4th place in the Grade Two contest, only one point behind the 3rd placed band, local rivals Grampian Police.

Strathallan Success

3rd August 2008

After a hard earned Summer break, the Novice band hit the road as it begins its build up to the World Pipe Band Championships.

Parade appearances at Braemar and Aboyne Highland Games got the gremlins out of the system before the journey to compete at the popular Bridge of Allan Highland Games.

Given a difficult draw of playing first in the Grade 3 MSR contest, and then shortly after in the QMM Grade 4 contest, the band again came out on top, winning Grade 4, and also the N/J band and dumming prizes from adjudicators Cameron Edgar and Gordon Craig. The band also took a solid mid table position in the Grade 3 contest.

The band continues it's preparations for "The Worlds" at Perth Highland Games on Sunday 10th August, where the Senior Band will also compete.

British Champions 2008

29th June 2008

Bucksburn & District N/J Pipe Band followed up its early season promise by winning the British Pipe Band Championships at Cannonhill Park, Birmingham.

Following a long and tiring coach trip - once again provided by our good friends at Watermill Coaches, led by our Honourary Member George Parks - the band played two solid performances to win both the MAP contest and the Novice/Juvenile Final.

This is the third time in the Junior Band's history that it has been crowned British Champions - following up on wins in 1993 and 1997. The Drum Corps were placed 3rd.

The Senior Band missed out on a top six placing by just one point, putting in one of their best performances of 2008 so far. The Drum Corps took an impressive 4th place. Local rivals Buchan and Grampian Police took 5th and 6th places respectively - our congratulations to all.

Games Day Trophy Haul

15th June 2008

Bucksburn & District Pipe Band took home 7 trophies from a success filled day at Aberdeen Highland Games.

Held at Aberdeen's Hazelhead Park, on a showery day, the Games have long been regarded as the band's "6th Major" of the season, being on home ground.

The Senior Band took 3rd place in both Grades One and Two, playing their Medley set both times in preparation for the British Championships in Birmingham at the end of June. The closely fought contest was won by Grampian Police, with Drumming honours going to Buchan Pipe Band.

The Novice/Juvenile Band kept up their successful 2008 season winning the Grade 4 contest, as well as winning Best Novice/Juvenile Band and Best Novice/Juvenile Drum Corps. The Grade 4 Drumming prize was won by Buchan Pipe Band. Playing up to Grade 3, the band took a credible 5th place in the MSR contest, just behind the Grade 3 bands.

The band also recognises a successful comeback for Drum Major Colin Hall, who took part in the Drum Majors contest for the first time in a number of years. He won both the Aberdeen Games contest, and also the confined North of Scotland Branch prize, taking 1st place in both Dress and Marching & Discipline. Good to see you back in action!
