Inverness Highland Games

23rd July 2007

The Junior Band made it 2 wins from 2 as they picked up the Best Novice/Juvenile and Drum Corps prizes at Inverness Highland Games.

Up against a strong Novice field as part of the Grade 4 contest, the band beat Scots College New Zealand, debutants Dingwall Juniors, Ross & Cromarty P&D School and 47th Culter B.B. in a closely fought contest. The band also picked up 4th place in Grades 4 and 3.

The Drum Corps were delighted to be the inaugural winners of the Dowling Drumming trophy, which was presented to L/D Sinead Bruce by renowed local adjudicator and drumming tutor Alasdair Dowling himself.

The result provides a timely boost for the band after a long break in the contest season. Both Bucksburn bands will be competing in the European Championships in Inverness on Saturday 28th July - best of luck to all!

Strathmore Highland Games

30th December 2006

The Novice/Juvenile band made it's first trip to the Strathmore Highland Games at Forfar on Sunday 10th June.

Playing in the Grade 4 contest, the band picked up 3rd place, and the Drum Corps won the Grade 4 contest, for their first outdoor drumming win! Both the Piping and Drumming judges commented well on their display. This was especially impressive as L/D Sinead Bruce and Allan Davidson only returned from school trips the afternoon before the contest!

The band also played up to Grade 3 as they continue to develop their skills by attempting a medley set of March, Jigs, Slow Air, Strathspey and Reels.

Well done to the wee band!

Trophy

Corgarff Solos

9th June 2007

Four members of the Novice/Juvenile band competed on the outdoor solos circuit for the first time at Corgarff Picnic & Games on Saturday 9th June.

Ally Gillies, Kieran Bruce, Andrew Patterson and David Wright took part in all sections of the contest, which was won by David Wilton of the Clan Gregor Society.

All four played well on their solos debut, and were well received by the adjudicator. Ally took home the 4th prize in the 16 Years & Under Quick March, and Andrew 4th prize in the 16 Years & Under Slow March.

Well done to all for taking to the boards!

NoS Piping Quartets

12th February 2007

The Novice/Juvenile band took part in one of the largest indoor contests to be held in Aberdeen on Saturday 10th February, judged by P/M Gordon Lawrie.

Playing in both Grade 4 and up into Grade 3 for the first time, the youngsters gave a good account of themselves against a strong pool of Novice/Juvenile bands, picking up a 7th in Grade 4, which translated into 2nd in terms of N/J bands - behind Ross & Cromarty P&D School, who won Grade 4. The other quartets entered picked up 16th and 22nd out of 29 bands.

In Grade 3, the first attempt at competing in an MSR contest yielded 13th and 15th out of 16 beating some established adult bands.

Our congratulations go to all the bands taking part in a very successful day considering the wintery weather.
